Virgin Balloon Flights to host British tea party in the sky

Tuesday, 7 August 2012 2:41 PM

Virgin Balloon Flights will be celebrating summer by hosting a unique tea party in the sky and are offering one lucky winner the chance to be a guest.

The unique flight will take place at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta on August 10 this year.

The balloon will rise up to at least 1000ft in the air in what is thought to be the highest open-air tea parties ever held.

Guests will be served finger sandwiches and cream cakes on china plates as they fly over Bristol in a mass ascent with many other balloons taking part in the fiesta. Twinings Tea, English sparkling wine and traditional lemonade will also be served.

Just 12 passengers will get to experience this unique tea party and Virgin Balloon Flights are running a prize draw competition for one lucky winner and guest to take part. Winners will also get at hotel stay the night before in Bristol, a Classic Tea Hamper from Twinings, and a copy of ‘Great British Bake-Off – How to Turn Everyday Bakes into Showstoppers’ by Linda Collister.

Virgin Balloon Flights’ pilot Mark Simmons will fly the balloon for the tea party. He also holds the world record for the highest concert in a hot air balloon. He said, “There is so much positive patriotic energy around at the moment and, as our balloon rides give people a unique way to see beautiful Britain, we wanted to do something fun to capture that feeling. What better way than with a tea party in a hot air balloon, following in the fine Victorian traditions where an impressive venue was just as important as the china, doilies, scones and cream teas? I think we’ve got that covered!”
