Quirky luxury hotels - A Room for London
Though not technically a hotel, this room could possibly have the best view in the whole of London. When you picture this you’re probably imagining an exclusive pent house suite on top of some iconic building, not a wooden boat perched precariously on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall at the Southbank Centre, as if left there by retreating floods.
The one-bedroom installation - A Room for London - was designed by Kohn Architects in collaboration with Fiona Banner and guests can actually stay and sleep in it for the night. It will stay on top of the roof throughout the rest of 2012 and was designed to offer guests a place of relaxation and refuge right in the hub of the city.

The boat, named Roi des Belges, offers all the luxuries of a hotel with dark timber walls, a small kitchenette and spacious seating area with incredible views over the London skyline. From the top deck of the boat you can enjoy panoramic views that stretch all the way from The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben to The London Eye, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Gherkin.
Artists and musicians have stayed in the boat using the space as an inspiration and refuge from the storm of the city, and it is available to be booked out so that others can enjoy the experience too.
It is hoped that in the future the boat will be placed in other strange places around the capital for guests to stay in.
