A look at what Perth's nightlife has to offer
As one of Australia's biggest and most bustling cities, Perth is a wonderful destination if you want a chic, relaxing holiday. The metropolis offers something for every interest, although what really makes it stand out is the thriving nightlife.
Perth receives more sunshine than any other major city in the country - around 300 days each year are sunny - however, it is when the sun sets that the place truly comes to life. Whether you've been relaxing on one of the many golden beaches or exploring fascinating attractions like the Perth Mint and Bell Tower, you will have an equally wonderful time in the evening as you have had during the day.
Of course, with the onset of nightfall you're likely to have worked up quite an appetite. The best of local cuisine and international dishes are served by Perth's many restaurants, meaning there will always be somewhere to satisfy your hunger. Visit the award-winning Restaurant Amuse, situated in East Perth, or Clarkes of North Beach. At the latter, you can sample dishes such as apple-smoked quail breast, pressed suckling pig and honey-roasted duck.
Head just outside of central Perth to the Bluewater Grill and you can taste sumptuous Australian dishes - many of which have Middle Eastern influences - while taking in amazing views of the city's skyline and Swan River.
Many of Perth's dining establishments have a 'bring your own' policy regarding alcohol, allowing you to take your own wine or any other tipple of choice into the restaurant without having to pay a significant amount of money for something off the house wine list. With that in mind, there are plenty of places where you will be able to have a few drinks for a reasonable price, be it at a restaurant or bar.
The fantastic nightlife has long been a popular draw for those taking Perth flights, so if you want to let your hair down on a luxury holiday there is no better place to do just that.
In the evenings, the Northbridge district becomes a particular haven for drinking and dancing and there is a whole host of pubs, bars and nightclubs you can visit. Head to the Universal Bar on William Street and you can have a few cocktails while watching live jazz and blues acts perform, while the Brass Monkey serves a wonderful array of handcrafted beers.
Unsurprisingly, the bars around Perth's Central Business District comes alive on a Friday evening as office staff look to mark the end of the working week with a few drinks. Join in the fun at the CBD Bar and the Belgian Beer Cafe, the latter of which has DJs and jazz performances over the weekend.
For a really glamorous night out, visit the Subiaco Hotel. The establishment's Bianca's Bar has the feel of a traditional pub and provides a wide variety of beers for you to try. In the Subi cocktail bar, meanwhile, you can sip on a daiquiri or margarita while in stylish surroundings, with the drinking den considered the place where Perth's glitterati go to hang out.
If you'd rather spend a night watching a play or musical, there's plenty of opportunity for you to do so. Perth has a rich performing arts scene, with numerous theatres - both large and small - putting on wonderful productions. Among the many fantastic venues you can visit are the Old Mill Theatre and the Regal Theatre in the suburb of Subiaco.
The His Majesty's Theatre, or the Maj as it is more commonly known to the locals, is the home of the West Australian Ballet and is the only Edwardian theatre in Australia. Katharine Hepburn, Pirates of the Caribbean star Geoffrey Rush and Vivien Leigh are just some of the famous names to have trodden the venue's boards over the years, and you are guaranteed to have an evening of first-class entertainment when you come here.
Perth also has a fantastic history of live music, so it won't be hard for you to go to a concert after your flight to the city has touched down. The Burswood Entertainment Complex puts on a range of gigs and theatrical shows all year round, with the likes of Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga among those to have played here.
If a classical music performance is your idea of a dream night out, head to the Perth Concert Hall. The Berlin Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra have played at the venue over the years, although many contemporary acts - from Ray Charles to Michael Buble - have also performed here.
