Quirky luxury hotels - eco pod cabins in Cornwall

Tuesday, 7 February 2012 3:52 PM

Glamping’s new destination in north Cornwall are the Atlantic Surf pods, a secluded enclave of eco pod cabins located just a few minute’s drive from the sea. Set on a peaceful 26 acre farm they combine environmentally friendly features with cosy luxury.

Made from wood with a curved roof and sides, and grass covered top, the pods look like something that would be more at home in the Hobbits’ Shire or the land of the Teletubbies, than the Cornish coast. But, despite initial appearances, inside the pods have a contemporary minimalistic feel, with clean lines and soft furnishings.

Having only just recently opened their doors, the owners have created seven eco pods, each one insulated to the highest degree and fully furnished with a luxury king sized bed, solar and LED lighting, a private wet room and fully equipped private kitchen.

In the evenings, sit outside and enjoy a glass of wine while grilling your own barbecue. And in the day time take a short drive to the sweeping Atlantic coast, where you can enjoy cliff-top hikes, horse riding, cycling, sailing or fishing. Also nearby is the area of Padstow, one of the top UK tourist destinations and the famous Eden Project.

So, whether you want to get back to nature or go for a cosy romantic weekend, leaving the lightest of carbon footprints, then the Atlantic Surf pods could be just the place.

These cabins are not your usual basic rustic cabins, these are über luxurious retreats nestled in 3,300 acres of prime woodland. Each cabin blends into the forest floor and the trees surrounding it, and invites you to claim your own slice of nature.

The strange story-book world of Winvian is an enchanting playground where anything goes.
