All about Milan's summer events
Milan's a wonderful place to visit for a chic summer break. Not only do you get to wander around the city as you soak up the warm Italian sunshine, but you can also enjoy a refreshing gelato while you walk.
Another thing that makes Milan the ideal luxury holiday destination is the wealth of amazing activities taking place. With events catering for every interest imaginable, you won't have to worry about boredom setting in at any point of your stay. There's bound to be something going on that will catch your eye, but here's a rundown of the most exciting ones.
Bruce Springsteen at the San Siro
For most of the year, the San Siro stadium is a hotbed for sporting action as both of the city's football teams - AC Milan and Inter Milan - play their home fixtures there. During the summer months though, when the season is over, the ground often hosts concerts by major performing artists.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band will take to the stage on July 6th as part of their 2012 world tour. While tracks from new album Wrecking Ball will be played, you can also expect to hear some of The Boss's greatest hits including Born in the USA and Born to Run. It's not the first time Springsteen's appeared at the San Siro, although his last concert in 2008 caused some controversy after he played for 22 minutes beyond the agreed time.
Festival Latino Americando
Milan's famous for being a melting pot of different cultures and in attending the Festival Latino Americando, being held this July and August, you'll get an insight into Latin American art.
Dozens of events, ranging from concerts and dance recitals to film screenings and exhibitions, will take place over the city as part of the annual showcase. Romeo Santos and Natalia Jimenez are among the confirmed artists due to perform, in what's certain to be an exciting spectacle.
Milano Rugby Festival
If you like the thought of watching sport in the sunshine, you're bound to love the Milano Rugby Festival. This annual seven-a-side rugby tournament takes place in Cernusco, a pretty town just 5 km to the east of the city, with teams from across Europe competing for glory.
The four-day event kicks off in style with a party on June 7th, with plenty of food and beer served. Of course, the main focus is on rugby, but there's a fun atmosphere throughout the entire weekend where players and spectators alike let their hair down in the evening to dance and have a few drinks. Despite it taking place at the height of summer, the festival has a Christmas bash on the Saturday night, where 5,000 revellers enjoy some festive fun.
Gods of Metal
Fans of rock and metal music should check out the Gods of Metal festival running from June 21st to 24th at the Rho-Pero Trade Fair. This is one of the biggest music events in the country and this year celebrates its 15th anniversary. Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N' Roses and Motley Crue are among those on the bill, while The Darkness and Children of Bodom will also play.
As you can see, there are plenty of things happening in Milan this summer, so you're not going to want miss out on a single second of the excitement. Make sure you book a flight that sees you arrive in the city in good time for the event you want to be a part of, and if you hire a car from Milan Airport, you can head straight to the venue and get involved in the fun straightaway.
