Most fashionistas head to cities such as London, Paris or New York for a shopping weekend out of the ordinary. But have you ever considered Istanbul?

In a bid to put the destination well and truly on the shopping map, the first ever Istanbul Shopping Fest is taking place from 18 March to 26 April.

Those who haven’t considered Istanbul to be a world shopping capital will soon have to re-consider. This thriving city is amongst the fastest growing retail destinations in the world. So, perfect for a shopping weekend abroad.

Home to the original mall, the 550 year-old Grand Bazaar, Istanbul has for centuries been a draw for artists and merchants from all corners of the globe. The city today boasts over 90 indoor shopping centres, including Kanyon, purveyor of an array of luxury names including Harvey Nichols, and Cevahir, Europe's largest.

The Shopping Fest will see shopping malls and high streets throughout the city open every day until 11pm, with up to 30 per cent off new season products available.

The Fest will also include an array of giveaways, promotions, shows and concerts.

There is no doubt that Istanbul c has the potential to rival the likes of New York and Paris when it comes to shopping.
