Relax in the beautiful resort of Olu Deniz

Wednesday, 4 July 2012 9:21 AM

Lots of holidaymakers jet to Turkey for their summer breaks to soak up the sunshine and have a rest on the golden beaches. One resort that is a particularly beautiful place to spend your luxury holiday in Turkey is Olu Deniz, offering tourists a touch of paradise on their getaway.

Pristine beaches

Olu Deniz is a great place to go if you want to escape from the rigmarole of daily life, as this pretty lagoon allows tourists to unwind on its isolated picture-postcard beaches.

Situated on the southern coast of Turkey, Olu Deniz is an enclosed bay near the popular resort of Fethiye. It has maintained its natural beauty over the years, as it is a protected area, so you can expect certain restrictions here. Only non-motorised water sports are allowed to take place, for instance, but these limitations serve to keep Olu Deniz quiet and beautiful.

Furthermore, there is a small charge to reach the lagoon, which means it has managed to stave off crowds off tourists that have chosen to visit other resorts instead. When you come here, you can expect to find quiet, golden beaches, turquoise seas and a calm ambience.

Plenty to do

Lying on the beach for days on end might sound like your idea of heaven. However, if you need to escape the midday heat or you fancy breaking up your day with another activity, there are plenty of things to do in Olu Deniz's main beach, Belcegiz.

There is a strip of bars, restaurants and shops along the seafront. Therefore, you can choose exclusive somewhere to dine out for a relaxing lunch on the beach, tucking into delicious local fare such as seafood meze, including calamari, fried mussels and mussels with rice. If you fancy hitting the shops, you'll be able to pick up souvenirs all day long, with stores open late in the evening.

You could also stay in Olu Deniz into the evening and head out for a few drinks at the lively Turkish bars in the area.

Activities

While no motorised sports are allowed in Olu Deniz, there are still a number of other activities you can take part in. To really explore the lagoon, you can go on a boat trip around the coastline. This will give you the chance to take in the sight of the beautiful aquamarine seas and forest-lined shores from the water, as well as allow you to see further along the coast.

If you want to do something adventurous during your trip, you could have a go at paragliding. This is a popular activity in the area, and many tour operators offer the opportunity to begin your descent from coastal mountains, finishing on the golden shores. This will enable you to see the area from a different perspective, taking in the beautiful views of Olu Deniz from the sky.

Should you prefer land-based activities, you could go for a hike in the pine-covered mountains by the coast. Head to Hisaronu near Olu Deniz, where you can explore the tall forests, providing welcome shade from the intense summer sunshine. Hisaronu is also a pretty hillside village so you can enjoy walking around the traditional locale and soak up its charming atmosphere on a trip here.
