Mauritius: get married in paradise

Friday, 29 June 2012 11:42 AM

Lots of couples dream about getting married on a tropical beach with the sun on their skin and the wind in their hair - and if you choose to tie the knot in Mauritius, this doesn't just have to be a fantasy. To find out why the island is a perfect wedding destination, read on.

Beautiful beaches

Situated in the heart of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is the quintessential tropical island with swaying palm trees and white-sand beaches. The beautiful isle is surrounded by crystal-clear waters so you will be guaranteed breathtaking photos if you get hitched on one of its shores.

There are many silky-soft stretches of sand you can pick for your wedding. However, a lot of the resorts are based in Grand Baie on the north-west coast of the island, so this area is likely to be one of the easiest to organise your wedding.

The hotels here are ideal for a special luxury holiday in Mauritius, offering top-quality facilities so you can enjoy being indulged during your trip. What's more, they are often located on or nearby the pristine beaches, so you can have beautiful views of the shallow waters lapping on the sand from your hotel room.

You can then hold your ceremony on the beach itself, exchanging vows underneath a pretty pagoda with the most exquisite views of the sea in the foreground.

Excellent weather

Another advantage of tying the knot in Mauritius is that you can get married at any time of the year, as the island boasts beautiful weather no matter what the season is.

In the winter (July to September), you can expect the temperature on the coast to drop to 22 degrees C, so you'll never be too cold to hold your ceremony on the beach and can enjoy your honeymoon on the island afterwards. Comparatively, the summer season (October to April) sees temperatures reach 34 degrees C.

This means that you are most likely to experience blue skies and sunny climes when you do visit, so you can be more flexible when picking what month you get married in.

Honeymoons

Of course, another benefit of choosing a tropical island such as Mauritius to get hitched is that you don't have to travel in order to go on your honeymoon. You won't have to wake up early the day after the wedding to catch a long-haul flight, as you can simply roll out of bed and walk to the beach instead.

This saves on your travelling time, allowing you to have longer on your honeymoon rather than having a long journey to get there.

Mauritius is also an ideal location for honeymoons, with several hotels offering specific packages for this special holiday, so you can enjoy a number of treats while on one of the most beautiful islands in the world.
