Best honeymoon resorts: One&Only Palmilla,Los Cabos, Mexico

Thursday, 1 September 2011 4:24 PM

Each week holidaychic.co.uk will be checking out the best resorts for your honeymoon, to find you the most atmospheric, most romantic and most luxurious place for this once in a lifetime holiday. This week we look at One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos, Mexico.

One&Only Palmilla is a beautiful oasis perched on the tip of the Baja Peninsula, where the aquamarine sea meets the red rocks of the mountains and the desert. The Baja Peninsula is located in Baja California, a 1,100 mile long finger of land jutting off the coast of mainland Mexico.

With its colonial style whitewashed buildings, red tiled roofs and trickling fountains, the One&Only Palmilla showcases the gracious style of old Mexico.

Rooms are beautifully furnished with carved wooden fittings, traditional soft furnishings and wrought iron fixtures. You can choose between ocean or beach front rooms. Ocean front rooms have wide sweeping vistas overlooking the Sea of Cortez and come with their own telescope for romantic night time star gazing. Beach front rooms line a dramatic shoreline and each has a private veranda where you can sit and relax or watch out for grey whales gracefully breaching through the waves.

For extra romance you could book the exclusive Cortez Villa, located on its own private beach with private infinity pool, its own state-of-the-art gym, outdoor rain shower and 24 hour butler service.

The resort’s own spa is renowned as one of the premier spa destinations in Mexico and offers a wide range of treatments and programmes to relax and rejuvenate. There is also a beauty and wellness centre for extra indulgence.

The Palmilla features three restaurants: the Agua features a mix of Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine and is set outdoors around a beautiful fountain; the Market is run by Michelin Star chef, Jean-Georges Vongerichten and serves Euro-Asian cuisine, it also has the country’s most extensive wine list. Suviche offers a selection of ceviche, made from raw fish and Japanese sushi in an elegant setting. There is also a poolside bar and lunchtime cafe.

Honeymoon specials
The resort has its own honeymoon Couples Sanctuary Package that includes seven nights accommodation, champagne and flowers upon arrival, five romantic dinners for two, including one dinner on the beach, a couples yoga session, special spa and massage treatments and more.

Beyond the bedroom
And when you have time to step out of your gorgeous room, there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, including water sports, tennis and swimming. The resort also has an award-winning golf course designed by legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus. And if you fancy exploring a bit of the real Mexico, the resort will organise excursions to visit the mountains, desert or go whale watching.

There are also plenty of cultural attractions in the charming nearby town of San Jose del Cabo, including museums, markets, shops, restaurants and art galleries.
