Tie the knot abroad and avoid unwanted guests

Beautiful white beaches, clear blue skies and turquoise waters are some of the appealing factors of getting married on foreign shores.

But new research shows that more than half of Brits decide to get married abroad to avoid unwanted guests.

The survey, conducted by Sandals Resorts, revealed that 47 per cent of respondents said they would like to or are planning to get married away from home to avoid inviting people they do not really want to be there.

The survey also showed that overseas wedding are now just as popular as those at home.

Even as almost half of people asked said they would tie the knot abroad to avoid unwanted guests, better weather still topped the list of reasons to get married overseas.

And perhaps not surprisingly, the Caribbean proved to be a popular destination to get married for the majority.

Amanda Lucas, wedding supervisor for Sandals UK said, 'We have seen a year-on-year increase in the number of weddings we have organised abroad this year.'
The survey asked 2,000 people.
